This tool is an online eyedropper for images. Load a photo, a screenshot, a logo or a product shot, hover anywhere, and the magnifier shows the exact pixels under your cursor so you can hit precisely the spot you mean — a single thread in a fabric, one letter of a logo, the exact shade of a wall between shadow and light. One click grabs the color in every notation you might need: HEX for CSS, RGB for code, HSL for tweaking, CMYK as a print approximation and OKLCH for modern design systems.
Everything happens locally. The image is decoded by your own browser, read pixel by pixel on your own device, and never transmitted anywhere — which matters when the “image” is a client’s unreleased design, a medical photo or a selfie. There is no upload step, no queue and no size fee: big photos are simply downscaled in memory to keep phones happy.

Why the picker averages pixels (and when not to)
Zoom into any photograph and flat surfaces dissolve into noise: camera sensors dither, JPEG compression rings around edges, and anti-aliasing blends neighboring shapes. Pick literally one pixel and you often get an outlier your eye never saw. The default here samples a 3×3 window and averages it in linear light — the mathematically correct way; averaging the raw HEX numbers would skew dark. Switch to 1×1 when you need the exact pixel of a flat digital design, or 5×5 for very grainy photos. The magnifier’s reticle always shows exactly which pixels are being read.

Every color you pick lands in My colors, the tray that follows you across this site. Tips for accurate on-screen colors
- Screenshots are more faithful than photos — a photographed screen adds your camera’s white balance on top.
- Disable Night Light / True Tone while matching colors; both quietly shift everything warm.
- Colors read differently against different neighbors (simultaneous contrast) — verify candidates in the compare tool at zero gap.
- For brand work, pick from the original asset file, not from a recompressed social-media copy.

How do I pick an exact single pixel in a huge photo?
Select the area in the overview, then zoom the detail pane (slider, mouse wheel or the 1:1 button). At high zoom one screen pixel is one image pixel, the loupe confirms the exact target, and Shift+arrow keys move the view a single pixel at a time. “Back” returns to your previous view.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is decoded and read entirely inside your browser. Nothing leaves your device — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the picker keeps working.
Why does picking a single pixel sometimes give a “wrong” color?
Photos are noisy and edges are anti-aliased, so one pixel can differ from what your eye blends. That is why the default samples a 3×3 area averaged in linear light; switch to 1×1 for exact pixels or 5×5 for smoother areas.
Can I pick a color from anywhere on my screen?
On Chrome and Edge, the eyedropper button opens your operating system’s picker so you can grab any pixel on any screen. On other browsers, use “Capture screen” to snapshot a window or screen and pick from the snapshot — with the same zoom panes.
Which image formats are supported?
Everything your browser can decode: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG and — depending on the browser — AVIF and HEIC. Very large photos are downscaled to protect memory on phones.
